Not a dream beginning

This year has not got off to a flying start for me. Blogging, eating, drinking and being merry have all gone swiftly out the window - courtesy of a winter sickness bug.

For anyone unfamiliar with this little fellow he strikes lower and harder than a bad bottle of home brew grappa (see how he weaves in his usual thread?). The first attack came on my daughter provoking major collateral damage to bedsheets, pyjamas, cuddly toys and anything within a ten mile radius. Inevitably, that led to the wife being the next victim quickly followed by son and father. I leave it to your imagination who made the worst patient although if you guessed the 30-something male you would be correct.

It's been hard to contemplate anything, let alone my favourite brew of late. Indeed, going to bed every night has become something akin to walking through a mine field. Where and when will the next explosion come?

I'll drink enough for two of us.

That's what friends are for. Not, as you seem to think, for going onto another blog and accusing your friend of transvestisism. :o)

When you can't stand the thought of your favourite alcoholic drink, that's when you know it's serious. Look on the bright side: New year, new liver :-)

I don't know where that one came from, just seemed like the right thing to say! No worries, I will keep any other revelations for the confessional.

I read somewhere recently that it has been scientifically shown that coffee helps to protect the liver. Now bring me my triple espresso!

Excellent! So that means that a grappa (which may damage liver) follwed by an espresso (repairs liver) is like drinking nothing at all. So in theory this combination can be consumed continuously with no damaging effects :-D

I like the way your mind works - exactly like mine!

Does it work though if the ratio of grappa to espresso is 4:1?

The only solution is to up the espresso dosage since there is no way the grappa levels are coming down!

it's for this reason that the caffè corretto was invented!

besides, the liver is a greatly underrated organ, I have intrinsic faith in its powers of recuperation.

and martino: if you ever want to borrow my shoes, I'd be happy to share them with you. Though I'd have thought a green and white stripy pair might be more appropriate.
